Alright, this time I’m reviewing Shipstrukk (lyrics in post) by nepetastrukk and terezistrukk. This song and more can be accessed for download via the archive run by homestuck-vocals.

This parody of Starstrukk by 3OH!3 was posted in 2015. Last time I reviewed a song by nepetastrukk, I was impressed how it held up over time, and I think this one does too. There’s a few things that this song and I ship it have in common. They both place all the quadrants on equal ground rather than focusing on one over the others and show a nice balance between characterizing Nepeta as a cute shipper troll and a bloodthirsty huntress.

I really like this duet! I think Terezi and Nepeta have a cute friendship and could see there being versions of them in paradox space who would write and sing this song. I like how the singers are able to put so much personality into the words they’re singing. Like, even if the lyrics didn’t say who was who, I would be able to tell Nepeta and Terezi apart on voice alone, which is something I appreciate.

What I also appreciate is what I’m interpreting as a small dig at Karkat from Terezi. “Just pick one damn quadrant and then roll with it/Don’t shout at me and throw a fit.” This reads as a subtle jab at Karkat over not being able to pick a quadrant whilst attempting to court Terezi during their SGRUB session. I love when Homestuck parody songs feel grounded in time.

Overall, this is a good song. I don’t have any issues with it. Sure it’s not got any in-depth portrayal of auspisticism, but it doesn’t need to have that. It’s lighthearted and fun and characterizes the characters well. It’s on my auspisticism playlist, how about yours?
